Holidays

Holidays are much more than Christmas, it’s a time for traditions. My father used to say that traditions is what’s holding an extended family together. When you start to lose the traditions, you lose the foundation that makes you a family. Eventually you will drift apart and forget your common heritage. So, every little holiday is worth remembering and celebrating. Then there is the special one - Christmas.

Is there anything more magic than Christmas? It’s the time of year when everything becomes possible. I know that “peace on earth, goodwill to men” is a little far fetched sometimes, but I also know that if we stop trying; things will probably not become better.

In the hustle and bustle of things, it’s so easy to forget what Christmas stands for.

It’s not the food, decorations or presents; it’s about the people and the community. But we can’t forget that decorations and foods are a huge part of what makes the holidays festive. Our home changes into a winter-wonderland over the holidays, but we never forget the meaning of Christmas.

This blog, and my Christmas books are a way for me to remember our traditions and share what I love about Christmas. I realized one day that I had never found the Christmas book I really enjoyed reading, so now I am doing one of my big projects, The Ultimate Christmas Handbook. It’s a ten year project, so bear with me; and enjoy my Christmas.

Yesterday was the first Advent and here in Sweden that's the start of Christmas season. When you have one foot in two different cultures you cherry pick; so the Christmas boxes came out after Thanksgiving.

Living or artificial trees

Should a Christmas tree be real or artificial? There are plenty of aspects on the issue. In or home it’s a very easy answer; it has to be artificial since we have allergy problems against real trees. A real Christmas tree and the holidays will be spent at the emergency room. So there is no contest between them.

Sneak peak

Here is a little sneak peak from Deck the Hall, my new book that will arrive in November. We have lot of fun right now decorating and photographing Christmas trees.
Our house hosts 12 Christmas trees; we have sixteen rooms so it’s not too crowded. This is one of our smaller trees.

Let me show you my Christmas

I have always missed a certain kind of Christmas book, the type of book where you find a mix of stories, recipes and facts about Christmas. That’s why I decided to write The Ultimate Christmas Handbook series.

Read the first three chapters in my books

I first met him on a bright summers day, when I almost stumbled over him. He was just a few feet away from our front porch, a tiny little rugged Pica Pica; or Eurasian magpie as he’s more commonly called.

He looked at me with his big, black eyes and he wasn’t scared. When I took a few steps away from the porch, he turned around and walked towards a pile of wood, that my husband had… more

She sat there staring through the airplane window. It was blue sky as far as Helena could see – no other planes, no nothing. If she leaned towards the window, she could see the clouds down below. It was the perfect weather for traveling.

"What are we doing here?" she quietly asked herself. "Is this crazy?"

Helena gazed at her seven-month-old baby boy, soundly asleep in her arms… more
